Incorporating a waterfall feature often serves as the perfect focal point for your backyard. The sound of running water creates a tranquil environment, while also canceling out noise from neighbors or busy roads.  Other popular pool features to consider including would be poolside cabanas, pergola for seating area with shade, outdoor kitchen, and outdoor bar space, as well as poolside fire pit and fireplaces. These areas become the ideal space to enjoy alone time, or serve as the perfect entertainment space with family and friends. Everything from the patio space to the surrounding poolside landscaping helps to tie the entire backyard together, and seamlessly blend it fit the style of the home.

When choosing what overall style for your swimming pool, whether modern or rustic, natural, or geometric, the pool features to consider will vary. Working with a team of architects, designers and engineers will help you to select the ideal features for your design and lifestyle.

For homeowners and business owners alike, the addition of a swimming pool to their property is a big decision. It must make sense monetarily. There are times where a swimming pool adds value to a home and others where it becomes a money pit for the property. A swimming pool is an investment that adds a new lifestyle to the home, hotel, or commercial property. Swimming pool entertaining areas are ways to enhance your backyard living space. It is important to consider what this pool will be used for and in what ways it will enhance livelihood.

Ideas for Types of Swimming Pool Entertaining Areas

  • Kid Friendly

For many families, a kid friendly swimming pool is a top priority. Today, sundecks are a popular addition to a custom built swimming pool. This allows a spacious area for wading and shallow water. Adding lounge chairs to the sundeck creates a relaxing spot for anyone to enjoy. The addition of pool slides and diving rocks are also ways to create a kid friendly pool experience.

  • Poolside Kitchen & Dining Space

Make the most of your time spent outdoors by adding an outdoor dining space poolside. This instantly adds a new outdoor room to enjoy in every season. Custom outdoor kitchens can be created to fit your needs and budget. Anything from bar space, to pizza ovens, stainless steel grills and counter space can be included. An outdoor dining space poolside becomes the perfect way to entertain guests, or enjoy a quiet dinner with family.

  • Outdoor TV and Lounging Area

A popular trend today is outdoor televisions, the technology has come a long way. Whether it is installed into a wall or over a fireplace, or simply on a stand, an outdoor television adds poolside entertainment. The ability to be able to watch a sporting event, or a movie, while also enjoying a day at the pool is the living the life of luxury!

  • Poolside Cabana

Provide shade and an outdoor room poolside with a cabana. Cabanas can be customized as well to fit a budget or lifestyle. Anything from a material awning area to a small enclosed full cabana is a great idea for swimming pool entertaining areas.

  • Poolside Fireplace or Fire Pit

Adding fire elements to water is the perfect addition to the property. This is also a great investment to be enjoyed during the cooler months. Fireplaces can be customized to complement your home’s existing architecture. Fire pits are the more budget friendly option. Smaller movable fire pit pieces are great addition to a poolside patio.

Whatever your needs may be, swimming pool entertaining areas can be customized to your personal style and preference. They are a great way to enhance your pool experience and increase your investment. Working with an experienced team of designers will help you to achieve the best swimming pool entertaining areas for your home.

Tranquility Receives Gold Pool Design Award in 2016 APSP International Awards of Excellence Competition

Tranquility Pools in Northern New Jersey has surpassed its peers to win a prestigious industry pool design award from The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) this year. Tranquility Pools won a prestigious Gold Design Award this year during the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals’ International Awards of Excellence ceremony held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Generations Hall, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Hundreds of installations were entered this year into the competition. The North Jersey based company received the APSP International Award for Excellence for their custom swimming pool and spa design in Short Hills, NJ. The installation exemplifies creativity and quality workmanship in residential concrete pool design.

This swimming pool project presented a challenge from the beginning, since the Tranquility Pools crew was working with a small space and the client wanted many elements incorporated into the backyard. This client wanted to turn their backyard into a space that could have a pool, spa, outdoor kitchen area, dining, bar stools, and lounging space. Tranquility had to carefully map out everything and get creative to make all these elements fit while not feeling overcrowded.  Choosing brighter decking materials, tiles, and stones to make the outside feel resort-like and bright and bold. This house is situated on a busy street, and looks unassuming from the road. When guests walk into their backyard, they are completely transported to Miami or the Caribbean, hidden right on a busy road in the Northeast.

To fit every ideal element, the client wanted into their property, Tranquility used a raised planting bed to double as a bar seating area. By creating different levels of patio space, they could create an upper dining area with a kitchen, a lower seating area with a fire wall for intimate seating, and a lower patio for lounging pool side. Furniture was carefully selected to make the best use of the space and to not overcrowd any area. Lounge chairs were placed off the patio onto the lawn checkered stone area to allow more space poolside. The whole team of designers and builders at Tranquility worked hard to make a small space look much larger than it was.

Firms across the United States and around the world submit hundreds of entries to the competition each year. The APSP International Awards of Excellence program then recognizes the most beautiful and creative installations of pools, spas, hot tubs and water features.

Tranquility Pools owner, Mitchell Knapp, says “it was an honor to not only work with this client, but to be recognized for all the hard work our whole team contributes to every project. I am proud to see the creative boundaries being pushed and the bar for craftsmanship being raised every year.”

Closing Pools for Winter and Planning for Springtime

Share!

This time of year, homeowners across the east coast are closing pools for winter. Homeowners tend to have different preferences over their closing protocols, some will close their pools immediately after Labor Day weekend while others will wait until after those last few warmer October days leave us. Whatever the preference, by November homeowners are closing pools for winter and bracing for the cold weather that follows.

The Importance of Closing Pools for Winter

Whether your swimming pool is above ground or inground, closing pools for winter season is imperative. Whether you close your swimming pool yourself, or have a pool professional assist in the closing, there are certain protocols to follow to ensure proper closure.

Swimming pools need to first be cleaned out of any remaining debris or plant material. The water chemistry is then tested and balanced to make sure no corrosion or buildup occurs during the winter months. Pool water is then drained to the proper fill line below the skimmer mouth to prevent damage. The pump, filter and heater is then drained completely. Skimmer baskets and jet fittings are removed. Once filter hoses and drain lines are completely empty and blocked off, the cover may be put onto the swimming pool.

Pool covers prevent damage to the concrete caused by freezing temperatures and prevents the water from freezing or cracking the lining, gunite or tiles. Covers will also prevent debris from trees falling into the water. Many pool companies are involved with the closing pool for winter process to ensure everything is taken care of correctly. This way, once Memorial Day comes around the pool is able to be opened easily and will be ready to be enjoyed right away.

Perfect Time to Start Planning Ahead

Just because the pool is closed for the winter, does not mean everything needs to be put on hold. Homeowners dread the winter months when their property looks bleak and lifeless. However, these winter months are always the ideal time to start planning ahead for springtime. What changes do you want to make to your yard? Is there anything you would like to remove, or anything new you would like to add to the property? Even though many homeowners and business owners are not thinking about planting or building during the wintertime, landscape companies and pool companies are still open. By being ahead of the curve and working on designs and plans during the winter, come springtime you will be first on the list for new projects.

During the winter while all the leaves fall away, the true backbone of your property is visible. This is what makes winter perfect for planning. Whether you are looking for new pool landscaping design, pool additions such as a waterfall or diving rock, or even creating new poolside gardens, winter is your time to plan for it. We know how hard it can be to think about warm weather during the coldest days of winter, but rest assured they always return! Make sure next year is a year you plan ahead and get the most out of your property’s potential.

Benefits of an Inground Pool Vs. Above Ground Pool

Share!

There are many benefits when choosing to install an inground pool vs. an above ground pool. Many homeowners who wish to add a swimming pool to their property have a budget in mind and look first at the costs involved for both options. While the cost difference to install an inground pool vs an above ground pool is substantial, you get what you pay for when it comes to swimming pools. There are many factors to consider when determining which pool is best for your home that should be weighed against the costs involved.

First and foremost, the ability and leeway to completely customize your swimming pool is only possible with an inground pool design. Choosing to install an inground pool vs an above ground pool gives homeowners the luxury of choosing tile colors, plaster colors, coping material, and freedom to choose any shape or size. With above ground pools, the options are limited as the structure is already completed built. For most homeowners, the option of constructing an inground pool provides them with the ability to achieve the appearance they want for their backyard. This allows for more control over the views out the back windows, the option to add additional pool features, and the limitless customizing options.

Another important variable to consider is longevity. With inground pools, whenever you are building a swimming pool out of concrete and into the ground, the longevity of the structure is greater. Above ground swimming pools are more vulnerable to accidents and collapsing, breaking and leaking.  Constructing a swimming pool out of concrete provides the safety to withstand mother nature and wear and tear of the seasons year after year.

While many homeowners will see an above ground pool as a simpler option, there is still plenty of upkeep involved. Most times, an additional customized deck is needed to be constructed to seamlessly blend the pool to the home. This adds additional costs and proper maintenance needed.

Overall, an inground pool vs. an above ground pool adds value to home. While the costs are greater at first, it is an investment. Inground swimming pools are a popular checklist item for many potential home buyers, where an above ground pool is often an eye sore and a deterrent. Homeowners want to know that their swimming pool is safe for friends, children and family and they want to know that the money they are spending will stand the test of time.

If you are interested in the addition of an inground pool to your home, or have some questions and would like to schedule a meeting or consultation, we are here to help assist in this process and look forward to hearing from you.
